Coralive builds and restores resilient coral reefs
Coral reefs are some of the earth’s most biodiverse ecosystems. Not only do they provide essential habitats for marine life, but half a billion people also rely on them for their livelihoods. Furthermore, coral reefs protect coastal towns from storms and erosion.
More than 50% of the world’s coral reefs have died in the past decades. Over the next 20 years, that number could reach 90%, unless we take action to protect and restore them.
Building one of the world’s biggest coral nurseries
Coralive is a Swiss environmental organization operating on a global level to protect, manage, and restore coastal ecosystems. Their network of passionate people and organizations is always open for new ideas and partnerships, and anyone who wants to volunteer is more than welcome.
Rhamnous is proud to support Coralive’s coral nursery project in the Maldives with our donations. In partnership with Ark2030 and Soneva, Coralive is setting up an ambitious program to restore coral reefs and create a coral hub for the Maldives. The coral farm at Soneva Fushi in Baa Atoll will be one of the largest in the world, able to cultivate 1 hectare of coral each year.
The nursery’s purpose is to restore coral habitats and improve the resilience of the local marine ecosystem, which has been decimated by rising sea temperatures, ocean acidification, El Niño events, and ocean pollution. Through their coral restoration work, they hope to become a knowledge hub for the Maldives and beyond.
We are eager to help them achieve this goal. If you want to know more about our donations for this project, or if you are curious about other ways to support this worthy cause, don’t hesitate to get in touch.
